Back in high school, I remember everyone going nuts when it came close to any homecoming or turnabout dance. Getting tanning packages and going to the salon almost religiously, even the day of the actual event. There were times that I did use tanning beds, but it never helped me achieve any color so what was the point? Given where I am at now, I realize how stupid that all was and wish I had never stepped into one. Studies have shown that people who have tanned indoors are 74% more likely to develop melanoma than those who haven't. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, people are more likely to develop skin cancer due to indoor tanning than develop lung cancer because of smoking. My plea is to please stop indoor tanning, there are no benefits to it. All it is doing is putting yourself at greater risk and I'm telling you, no tan is worth it. There are so many safe alternatives available. I have always been an avid user of self-tanners and spray tans. I am naturally so fair that they really are the only option for me to be able achieve any sort of color. Many of them can leave you orange or this strange green and that is not cute on anybody unless maybe you're an Oompa Loompa. Recently I have come across St. Tropez In-Shower Gradual Tan. You use it three days in a row and are left with what is closest thing to a "natural looking" streak-less glow. I'm so happy to have been give this recommendation of a company that makes drumroll please FASHIONABLE sun protective clothing. It was Mott 50 that I trusted to keep my skin safe during a recent trip to Mexico. They make cover-ups, swim dresses, sun hats, and tons more. While the patterns are stylish, the quality of the garments is what I found to be most impressive. My only regret is that I didn't know of Mott 50 sooner.
